One of my faithful smoothie recipes for staving off sickness and savoring the deliciousness of fresh oranges.  A great way to kickstart your immune system, brighten your skin and keep things running smoothly. It’s basically self care in a cup!

Remember orange creamsicles from when you were a kid?! This smoothie is so tasty, refreshing and simple you won’t believe what it can do for your body!

Besides immune-boosting vitamin C, oranges deliver vitamin A, fiber, potassium, choline and powerful plant compounds called bioflavonoids and isoflavonoids.

This makes them good for your heart, your immune system, your skin, your digestion, weight loss, balancing hormones and maybe even preventing Alzheimer’s and certain cancers too!

Oranges are naturally low in calories (about 85 calories per orange) and low in glycemic index, so they won’t send your blood sugar skyrocketing (thanks to the fibre which helps slow the absorption of natural sugars).

Refreshingly simple – I find it works best in a high powered blender, but any blender will do.

Best served right away or it separates.

This super simple smoothie is reminiscent of orange creamsicle popsicles. Beyond vitamin C, it’s full of folate, B-vitamins, potassium, antioxidants and also plant-based omega-3 fats from the chia/flaxseed. So refreshingly delicious!

  • 1 navel orange peeled (leave some of the white rind
  • on for extra fibre)
  • 1-2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 7-8 ice cubes
  • 1 Tbsp ground flax or chia seeds - optional


  • Put all ingredients into a high powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • Serve immediately.
